We Americans love our magazines. They travel with us to work in the morning and on planes when on the road. They have comfortable places in our homes. Magazines are our companions while we wait to see the doctor, the barber or just to get our oil changed. We even take them on vacations. They inspire us to be better cooks, parents, gardeners, decorators and golfers. They make us healthier, better looking, smarter and wealthier. It’s no wonder we value them so highly and spend billions a year on subscriptions.
Magazines have enjoyed a 4% growth in audience in the past five years, ahead of radio, newspapers and television and second only to the internet in audience growth. In that same time the average number of issues read monthly has trended upwards from 11.0 to 11.5 issues. Magazines appeal to the young with readership strongest among 18 - 34 year olds.
